Giants sign reigning NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell to two-year deal
Contract details
The San Francisco Giants have signed reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to a two-year, $62 million contract, the team announced Tuesday night. The deal includes a $10 million signing bonus and a $52 million roster bonus.
Snell's impact on the Giants
Snell, 29, is a two-time All-Star and one of the most dominant left-handed pitchers in baseball. He won the AL Cy Young Award in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays and finished fifth in the NL Cy Young voting last season with the Padres. Snell's addition to the Giants' rotation gives them one of the best 1-2 punches in the league, alongside Logan Webb. The Giants are hoping that Snell can help them return to the playoffs after missing out last season.
Snell's contract breakdown
Snell's contract includes a $10 million signing bonus and a $52 million roster bonus. He will earn $21 million in 2023 and $31 million in 2024. The Giants have a club option for 2025 that could be worth up to $25 million. If the Giants decline the option, Snell will become a free agent after the 2024 season. Snell's contract is the largest free-agent deal in Giants history. The previous record was held by Carlos Correa, who signed a three-year, $58.5 million contract with the Giants in December.
