FSV Mainz 05 claimed a stunning 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in Matchday 8 of the Bundesliga 2021-22 on Friday night. The match, played at the Opel Arena in Mainz, was a tale of two halves, with Mainz dominating the first half and Dortmund the second.
Mainz took an early lead in the 15th minute through Karim Onisiwo, who headed home a cross from Aaron Martin. Dortmund equalized in the 30th minute through Erling Haaland, but Mainz restored their lead just five minutes later through a brilliant strike from Leandro Barreiro.
The second half was all about Dortmund, who pushed hard for an equalizer. However, Mainz held firm and even managed to add a third goal in the 86th minute through Dominik Kohr. The victory moves Mainz up to 10th place in the table, while Dortmund remain in third place.
